The NPL-821/350 combines the features of the DTM-821/350 stations with the world’s first high-precision coaxial, focusing, reflectorless EDM. Because measurement is achieved after focusing, the reflectorless EDM assures greater precision when the measurement beam is oblique to the target surface. Also, with the NPL-821/350, the diameter of the laser beam is etched into the reticle so that the size of the measuring beam can be evaluated, avoiding erroneous target recognition. This makes it easy to confirm that the beam does not extend beyond the target. Even when the beam does extend beyond the target, adverse effects on distance measurement accuracy are not nearly as great when compared to non-focusing devices.
